wilkinson power divider simulation in AWR

录入:edatop.com     点击:
I have simulated a 2 section wilkinson power divider at 2-4 GHz using lumped resistors in schematic of AWR .Since layout is not reflecting that resistors ,I can't do EM simulation .Please suggest how do to this and to take care of the parasitic at higher frequencies

Hello kumarkaushal,

Yes, when simulating using electromagnetic simulator you need to use Resistor Film to simulate in EM simulator or
use the EM Structure as subcircuit in a schematic & then add Resistor...

There is an example available in AWR MWO installation folder it is EM_Wilkinson.emp,
go through the same...
Just you need to setup the Impedance Definitions option from Enclosure - Material Definitions & then Draw the Impedance material properties in EM structure...

Thanks Manju for your reply
But I am having problem in Em simulation .If I am trying to copy the layout (derived from schematic and pasting it in Em enclosure it is not fitting exactly into it. hence i cant add ports to it .Snapping the structure causes the layout to change .
can you please describe how to fit the layout exactly in the enclosure.
Thanks

Hello kumarkaushal,

Use EM Extraction Block in the schematic to automatically create an EM structure...
or measure the dimensions (length) of the layout & create with exact EM X & Y dimensions to fit the layout into em structure & finally add ports to simulate...

If you still have problems then upload your MWO file (*.emp), so that we can help you better....

i have aatached all files for Schematic and EM .I had exported the layout in gds format and then used that format to link it to EM structure .later I defined copper layer with conductivity ,thickness and substrate layer with all specifications.
I had efined resistor also (blue color)...with 50 ohm/sq. resistivity.
still the results of schematic and EM simulation are completely differrent from each other

Hello kumarkaushal,

It is due to EM Structure not properly setup & hence the results were wrong...
1. Dielectric Material details & the height was different from Schematic
2. the Power divider conductors are close to side-walls & the top enclosure
3. copper conductor material properties are not properly defined...&
4. The X & Y grid cell size is not correct is the help menu for more details...

I have changed these settings & now it is almost near to your schematic results...
See the attached modified project file...

By the way you are using very old version of AWR MWO!

Hello Sir ,

Thanks a lot for your help .The file that you have attached is unable to open in my AWR .But i have done the changes and results are satisfactory.
It will be greatly helpful if you attach the snapshots of settings of enclosure and resistor.
And if i am satisfied with EM simulation then can i go for the manufacturing of the same?

Hello kumarkaushal,

I have save for MWO v5.5 & higher ...& also attached is the screen shots of the setup...
Now you should be able to open...

thanks a lot for your help
you have cleared many doubts of mine ...

PS:
now that i have simulated and my schematic and EM simulation are matching ,can i go for the manufacturing of the power divider ?
whether the Thin film resistor with resistivity 50 ohm/sq is available ?
