Hey guys!

How does one export structures form IE3D and use it inside AWR MWO?I heard there is a direct way of importing the 3d structure itself.I have a coaxial probe fed patch antenna simulated in ie3d I want to introduce this geometry inside Microwave office .i.e the coaxial cable too.Could somebody help me on this?Maybe some tutorial video links on this would do.Or if you could write the procedure out here GREAT!

thnx

hello! please guys could somebody help me on this?

Hello fractalguy,

AWR Microwave Office (MWO) interfaces to Zeland IE3D directly through EMSocket...
just you need to select the EM simulator from the selection option in MWO...

I have attached a tutorial document shows step by step procedure for interfacing MWO with IE3D...

Also the other method is export the layout from IE3D as DXF or GDSII & then import in MWO & setup ports, Substrate details & then simulate in MWO...

hi manjunath!
thnx a lot for the reply.

I was also interested in knowing how do I import 3d structures into MWO like the coaxial probe alonthe antenna

Will MWO give accurate results for coaxial probe fed patch antenna? Can I have a comparison graph of simulation results of a ptach antenna with ie3d vs MWO?

Regards and thanks a lot! Manjunath

Hello fractalguy,

AWR MMWO-EMSight is a 3D planar MoM EM tool & doesn't support the import of
full 3D models...You can import or export multilayer DXF, GDSII & Gerber layouts only...

Regarding Coaxial probe representation you can do this two ways in MWO one use the Via to approximate the coax dimensions & location with Via port...
or
use edge port & then use the coaxial circuit model to tune the resonance frequency...

THe Zeland IE3D & MWO-EMSight even though uses same MOM tmethod but the formulation is different IE3d is based on open MoM solver & where as MWO_EMSight is Shielded MoM solver...
Hence their will be changes in results specifically for antennae, IE3D is good having said that you can get close results with EMSight too with little setup...
Agaian EMSight is good for Passive structures such as MMIC, RFIC implimentations...

I attache good article which was available online...but I couldn't find the exact link...

Manjunath! I appreciate your help.
Could you send me a coaxial probe fed patch antenna design in MWO?
So that I could know how it is done?An attached AWR file would be great!

Hello fractalguy,

There is an example available in the AWR MWO installation folder which is very similar to what you are asking i.e
Microstrip_Patch_Antenna.emp

Go through Design Notes
L-BAND RECTANGULAR MICROSTRIP PATCH ANTENNA

This project demonstrates the simulation of a microstrip patch antenna at L-band. A vertically-stacked design is implemented in an attempt to enhance the bandwidth of the antenna. The antenna is probe-fed using a via port. The location of the feed point results in a left-hand circularly-polarized radiated field. This example is taken from an article in the January 1998 issue of Microwave Journal [1]. Simulations compare very closely with the published data.

This example demonstrates antenna design using EM Sight, antenna patterns and E-field and current animations...

If you still need another example on the same I have verified accurate example,
send me email at manjunatha_hv@ieee.org I will send it to you...

hi,
I want to design a new rectangular probe fed patch antenna(i want put the only port from bottom to the patch) in AWR.
please ,can any one help regarding the circuit design in AWR

thank you
