Post Processing: Result TemplatesTemplate Based Post Processing

This template allows to calculate/read out several port properties:

  • The real part of the propagation constant gamma, alpha, which describes the attenuation.

  • The imaginary part of the propagation constant gamma, beta, also called the (angular) wavenumber. Result will be zero for evanescent waves.

  • The port cutoff frequency. Result will be zero for modes without cutoff, such as TEM.

  • The port impedance. There are different impedance calculation methods available for waveguide ports, such as UI, PI and PU-method:

    P/I:   Z = P / I^2

P/U:   Z = U^2 / P

U/I:   Z = U / I

MWS:   Read out Line Impedance from MWS (Wave Impedance if Line Impedance is zero)

For true TEM modes, all four results are identical. For inhomogeneous structures and so called Quasi TEM modes, the results differ. The voltage value U is integrated from the tangential electric field along an open curve, which has to be selected. The current value I is integrated from the magnetic field H along a closed curve, which has to be selected. The curves need to be defined before starting the macro.
