Post Processing: Result TemplatesTemplate Based Post Processing

This template offers the possibility to evaluate a chosen field in cartesian, cylindrical or spherical coordinate systems. Additionally the template can be used to export 0D, 1D, 2D and 3D ASCII data of fields. A prior definition of a curve or face with an entry in the navigation tree is not necessary.

Dimension:

This option defines the dimension of the field to be evaluated. 0D means, a single point is extracted from the field. 1D, 2D and 3D define the dimension of the field which is evaluated with regard to a specific result value.

Coord. System:

With this setting the coordinate system in which the 1D curve is defined can be chosen. Possible options are cartesian, cylindrical and spherical.

WCS:

The specified subspaces are expressed in coordinates of a working coordinate system which is per default the global coordinate system. A local coordinate system can be selected after storing the working coordinate system (navigation tree -> right mouse button -> store current wcs).

Direction (only 1D):

defines the coordinate direction of the 1D path.

Normal (only 2D):

defines the normal coordinate direction of the 2D face.

Stepsize:

In the case of 1D, 2D or 3D calculation ranges, the stepsize defines the sampling of the range. The stepsize is entered in the current project units.

Note:
Stepsize is always applied in an equidistant way, equl steps are used in all directions of the range.

Stepsize=0.0
trys to find a good default stepsize, which depends on meshtype (hex/tet) and also on the dimension (1D, 2D or 3D). Since for 2D and especially for 3D calculation can take significant time, the default stepsize is bigger as for 1D. In case you are interested in the actually used stepsize and some other statistics, please take a look in the Logfile. Afterwards you can adjust the value by typing a specific value.

Calculation Range:

In case of dimension 0D the remaining highlighted boxes serve for defining the point for field extraction as shown in the picture above. The description of the point is dependent on the chosen coordinate system.  In the given example of a cylindrical coordinate system the point defined by radius ”R”=0, angle ”F”=0 and elevation ”Z”=0 is chosen

In the 1D, 2D and 3D case these settings can be used to either define a curve, an area or a volume for evaluating the field. The chosen extensions are defined with respect to the coordinate system. In 1D there is one varying and 2 fixed parameters in order to specify a curve. The 2D plane is specified by its normal and the 3D volume by the limits of the volume’s extension. If the option ”max. range” is checked, the varying parameter will take values of the maximal range which is possible according to the description of the chosen coordinate system. In case the field evaluation should be restricted on the dimensions of a certain solid, the option ”Select Solids” can be checked. Then only those sampling points obeying two conditions –the specified calculation range and the restrictions due to the dimensions of the solid- are taken into account. When pressing the button ”Solids” a new dialog will pop up for selecting the solids (see picture below).

Evaluate Field and Component:

Here the field, which is evaluated along the curve defined in the ”Calculation Range” box, has to be chosen. Possible options are eigenmodes and 3D fields. To obtain 3D-fields 3D-monitors have to be defined before starting the simulation (solve -> field monitors).

Component:

This setting defines the field component to be evaluated. Possible options are the absolute value ”Abs”, the component of the field tangential to a specified curve ”Tangential”, the component of the field normal to a plane ”Normal”, X, Y and Z component. Additionally, the components belonging to the chosen coordinate system can be selected.

In the given example of a cylindrical coordinate system the components ”Abs”, ”R”, ”F”, ”X”, ”Y” and ”Z” are possible options.

Complex:

Since there are some fields stored as complex field vectors the interesting part of the complex  field has to be defined, that is either the real part, the imaginary part, amplitude or phase of the complex field.

Result Value:

This option is only available in case of 1D, 2D or 3D dimension. The field has to be evaluated with regard to a 0D result value. The possible options are the integral of the field along the specified curve, area or volume. Another option would be the maximum, minimum or mean field value of the field in the given subspace. The deviation of the field can be evaluated as well. Please note, this is not the standard deviation, instead it is a normalized difference of the field. Additionally the length, area and volume of the curve, plane or volume is accessible.

DrawPoints:

(only possible after Evaluation). This option visualizes all sampling points of the chosen field and allows checking of the defined calculation range.
Please note, that the picked point functionality of the modeler is used for visualization. The picked points have to unselected via shortcut "d" (Clear Picked Points).

Datafile:

(only possible after Evaluation). Shows the data file with the sampling values of the field along the varying parameters. Since the data is stored in ASCII format, this file can be used for exporting the field along the specified curve, plane or volume. The listed voxelsize is the size of the length-, area- or volume-element, which would be used for integration.

Logfile:

(only possible after Evaluation). Summarizes informations about the performed procedure and all settings defined in the dialog.

OK

This button completes the setup of the template. The new entry will be added to the list of templates which are executed automatically after each run. The default name of the template is set according to the settings, as long the name has not been changed manually.

Cancel

Aborts the setup of the template and closes this dialog box without performing any further action.
