CST2013: ADS Design Kit Compatibility Issues

General Remarks

In CST MICROWAVE STUDIO (MWS) version 2008 the project file structure has changed. Because of this all older projects are converted to this new file structure when opened with version 2008. Once a project has been converted, it can not be read by older MWS versions any more.

The installation directory of MWS contains the definition of the ADS? Design Kit. This Design-Kit will be searched by ADS to find all available library components. Whenever a MWS-project has been enabled for ADS? Co-Simulations, an entry (a new library element) with a link to this project will be added to the Design-Kit.

When a Design-Kit from an older MWS-Version is migrated to  MWS version 2008 or later, the MWS-projects referenced in the Design-Kit will be converted and can not be used by older versions any more.

-> You can not use the same Design-Kit for MWS versions 2008 or later and versions up to 2006b in parallel!

Migrating 2006b Library component to 2008

Preparing ADS Installation:

ADS 2006A user

• backup gem_CSTCmptDll31.dll in [ADS_Install]bin

• copy "gem_CstCmptDLL31.dll" from [MWS_2008_Install] to [ADS_Install]bin

ADS 2005A user

• backup "gem_CSTCmptDll29.dll" in [ADS_Install]bin

• copy "gem_CstCmptDLL29.dll" from [MWS_2008_Install] to [ADS_Install]bin

Preparing MWS Library

• After backup, MOVE all files starting with "CST_ADS_DK_1" from "[MWS_2006b_Install]LibraryADSCST_ADS_DK_1circuitael" to "[MWS_2008_Install]LibraryADSCST_ADS_DK_1circuitael"

• After backup, MOVE all files starting with "CST_ADS_DK_1" from "[MWS_2006b_Install]LibraryADSCST_ADS_DK_1circuitrecords" to  "[MWS_2008_Install]LibraryADSCST_ADS_DK_1circuitrecords"

• After backup, MOVE all files starting with "CST_ADS_DK_1" from "[MWS_2006b_Install]LibraryADSCST_ADS_DK_1circuitdesigns" to  "[MWS_2008_Install]LibraryADSCST_ADS_DK_1circuitdesigns"

• After backup, MOVE all files starting with "CST_ADS_DK_1" from "[MWS_2006b_Install]LibraryADSCST_ADS_DK_1circuitdata" to  "[MWS_2008_Install]LibraryADSCST_ADS_DK_1circuitdata"

Preparing ADS

• Start ADS

• Select: "DesignKit Setup Design Kits"

• Select "CST_ADS_DK_1"

• press "Cut"

• Design Kit of MWS 2006b is removed

• Press "Browse" behind the "Path" edit field

• Select the MWS library path: <MWS_2008_Install>libraryADSCST_ADS_DK_1

• Press "Add Design Kit to Level"

• Press OK

• Close ADS (the changes take effect only at the next start)

• Open ADS

• open an example with an MWS library block

• start simulation

• MWS starts and converts the project of this library block.

• A warning appears that ADS has to be restarted after the simulation in order to actualize the design kit entries.

• Restart ADS
